About the Author

I live in New Mexico with my husband and two children. I love expressing my creativity through writing and painting and I get a lot of my inspiration from my family and from the culture and beauty of New Mexico. I write mainly Young Adult urban fantasy, but my writing interests are ever expanding. I am also currently in the Dental Hygiene Program at San Juan College, so 90% of my waking hours are devoted to thinking about teeth for the time being!

Here is a brief interview with Author Delsheree Gladden;

Could you share a little about yourself and what led you to become a writer?

I spend my days in New Mexico with my husband and two children. We've lived a few other places, but it's nice to be back by family. When I was younger I couldn't wait to move away from the desert, but now I find a lot of inspiration from the beautiful scenery, myths, legends, and art of this area. I have always loved reading, and that passion sparked my interest in writing.

Do you write full time? How much of your life is set aside for writing?

I wish I could write full time! I'm very jealous of those who do. :) During the school year I work as a dental hygienist for a non-profit company that provides dental cleanings in the schools. I do most of my writing in the evenings and during school breaks. It's a great stress reliever for me!

Could you tell us a little about your novel?

Wicked Hunger is the story of Vanessa and Zander Roth.  Vanessa and Zander Roth are good at lying. They have to be when they are hiding a deadly secret. Day after day, they struggle to rein in their uncontrollable hunger for pain and suffering in order to live normal lives. Things only get worse when Ivy Guerra appears with her pink-striped hair and secrets. The vicious hunger Ivy inspires is frightening, not to mention suspicious.
Vanessa’s instincts are rarely wrong, so when they tell her that Ivy’s appearance is a sign of bad things to come, she listens.  She becomes determined to expose Ivy’s secrets. Vanessa tries to warn her brother, but Zander is too enamored with Ivy to pay attention to her conspiracy theories. One of them is right about Ivy … but if they lose control of their hunger, it won’t matter who is right and who is wrong. One little slip, and they’ll all be dead.

Would you take us on a brief tour of your novel and the world you've created?

The Roth siblings were born with a strange hunger for pain and suffering. They know it's something that has plagued their family for centuries, but they have no clue about its origins or what they are supposed to do with it. As far as Van and Zander know, they live in the same world we do. It isn't until they begin to uncover the truth that they realize they have been lied to for a very long time.

Where does the inspiration for your main character and story come from?

Wicked Hunger has two main characters, Van and Zander. The inspiration for these characters comes from the basic questions many teens struggle with. At that age they are struggling to figure out who they are, what they're meant to do with their lives. Van and Zander have those same questions, just on a more unstable and dangerous level.

What is the message behind the story? Was it something you specifically wrote a story around or did it develop as your characters came to life?

The message behind their story is that no matter what crazy circumstance
you are either born into or stumble upon, your decisions in life will shape who you are, not what anyone else thinks about you or what you are "meant" to become.

Do you work from an outline or just go with the flow? If you use an outline, how detailed is it?

I try not to outline if I can help it. Maybe it's after effects from school, but I do not like outlining when I write. If I get stuck and have to resort to outlines, it's no more than a few sentences per chapter. Sometimes I use sticky notes so I can rearrange if I need to or add a chapter.

What is the time span in your novel, weeks, months, years? How much research went into it?

The first book covers a few months. The series as a whole will cover about a year, give or take. Most of the research for Wicked Hunger was more like anti-research. Van and Zander are (hopefully) pretty unique creations, but I had to do a lot of research on the staple mythical creatures like vampires and such to make sure I wasn't using traits from other creatures that would make readers mistake what the Roth siblings are.

Could you tell us how you go about your research, how you 'catalogue' information to make it all work?

When I start researching a new book. I make a new folder in my favorites list on my internet browser and stick every website I check out into that folder. It helps me keep track of what I've looked at, I don't waste paper, and I can easily get rid of what I don't need later.

How does this book differ from what you have written in the past?

Wicked Hunger is quite a bit darker than my previous books. It's not gory or gruesome by any means, but the theme deals with darker topics. I had to really push myself to delve deeper into my characters' emotions with this book.

How have the changes in present day publishing impacted your schedule as a writer?

In some ways it is more laid back now. The strict one book per year for series that seemed to be the standard when I was younger, along with waiting impatiently for books has relaxed with a lot of small presses and especially with indie publishing no longer stands. I have the freedom to publish a book when I am ready and not be rushed.

Not a girlfriend, but the girlfriend.Alyssa—the one woman he’s been pining over for years.

Dennis and his fellow LARPers have never been considered cool, in their small island community of Verona, located off the coast of Washington State.

But all of that is about to change . . .

While Dennis and his friends are attending a big LARP tournament on the mainland, a rogue terrorist group of Mongolians in medieval garb, led by an American madman, invade Verona and take its citizens hostage—including their families and friends.

When the LARPers find out what’s happening in their home-town, they do what any dedicated LARPer would do: they put on their armor, strap on their swords, and fight their way home—LARP-style!

Category: Adult
Genre: Romantic Women’s Fiction

Synopsis:
Nora Darkin’s life has never been her own, but that’s about to change, and what she finds on the other side will taste a lot like sweet freedom.

Aidan Darkin, a wealthy entrepreneur, has controlled his daughter, Nora, since the death of his wife years prior. Nora never thought to question the decisions he made for her, always believing he knew best. But trust comes with a price, and for Nora, the sacrifice is her own happiness.

On the eve of Nora’s wedding, confronted with a truth that will change everything and a betrayal that will fracture the life she’s always known, she will do the unthinkable—defy her father and make her escape.

On her own for the first time, Nora makes the quaint country town of Dreara, known for its extraordinary chocolate, her temporary home. Faced with choosing for herself for the first time in her life, Nora sets out to capture her own independence, to fall in love for the right reasons with a man of her own choosing, and embark on a journey that will fulfill her soul—even if that means risking it all, and losing more than she ever imagined.

But even a place known for its chocolate doesn’t offer Nora the sweet beginning she’d hoped for.
